My service differs from other technical editing services because:

1. I have 32 years of experience as a research scientist, as a reviewer, and as an editor of scientific journals. I was a professor at the University of California at Davis until I retired in July 2007. I think like a scientist.

 2. I taught scientific writing at UC Davis for 15 years and have edited student papers from many different disciplines including ecology, phylogeny, plant physiology, botany, agronomy, horticulture, microbiology, nematology, entomology, plant pathology, mycology, bacteriology, soil science, geology, geography, animal science, and environmental engineering. Although I am certainly not an authority on all of these, I recognize and understand the fundamental characteristics shared by all scientific disciplines.

3. I am constructively critical. Regardless of discipline, writers are almost always grateful for my critical reading of their manuscripts.

4. In editing and revising, I try to explain the basis of the changes so that the writer gets both an improved manuscript and a better understanding of how to write effectively. To enhance and supplement learning, I offer a free, on-line Revision Guide.

5. You can try 30 minutes of my service for free. After receiving your document, I'll edit and comment on the Introduction (for 30 minutes). I'll then return the edited paper to you and tell you the charge to finish the job. If you do not want me to continue, there will be no charge.
